Quotations (quotes) and aphorisms have always fascinated me. There’s something compelling about concise wisdom that packs a punch when longer prose might not.
For those people like me who worship these short bits of wisdom and insight, I urge you to read a book by James Geary, The World in a Phrase: A Brief History of the Aphorism. In my opinion, it’s a masterpiece. It’s on my personal list of top 10 favorite books.
The book chronicles and expounds upon notable aphorisms from the ancient wisdom of Lao-Tzu and Buddha to the more contemporary Barbara Kruger. Along the way you learn a bit of history, biographical backgrounds, and chunks of hearty information that satisfies in a way few books do.

I thought I’d offer to my readers a few of my favorite quotes that have stood the test of time or that I’ve recently run across. You’ll notice a theme of individuality and the uniqueness of each person in these quotes.
